City Lights - Stained Glass Tealight Holder

$40 USD

A tired grey city. Three little houses. A little warmth behind the windows.

City Lights is a handmade stained glass tealight holder inspired by the contrast between the muted, worn character of a city and the small places where color, warmth and life can still be found.

The design features a flat stained glass insert depicting three simple houses, each with a different brightly colored roof - green, yellow and blue. The rest of the composition is made from translucent glass, allowing the candlelight to pass through the piece and bring the houses to life.

The dark grey patinated solder lines emphasize the graphic quality of the design and echo the concrete, asphalt and weathered surfaces of city streets.

A Little Color in a Grey City

The handmade plaster base is deliberately finished in a dark grey, worn-concrete style, inspired by the surfaces and atmosphere of an old city.

Against this quiet grey background, the three colorful roofs become small points of warmth and personality.

The idea behind the piece is simple: even in a grey and tired city, there are always places where people create warmth, comfort and color.

When the tealight is lit, the translucent glass changes with the light, creating a soft glow around the houses and turning the piece into a small illuminated cityscape.

Handmade Tiffany Stained Glass

The glass insert is handcrafted using the traditional Tiffany copper foil technique. The individual pieces of glass are cut, shaped and assembled by hand, with the solder lines finished in a dark grey patina to complement the urban character of the design.

The base is handmade from plaster and finished with three layers of protective varnish. The surface is designed to resemble weathered dark grey concrete while providing protection from moisture.

The round base has two dedicated recesses: one for a tealight candle and another for the stained glass insert, keeping the composition securely in place.

A tealight candle is included, so the piece can be enjoyed right away.

A Small Cityscape for Your Home

City Lights is designed as a small piece of artistic home decor - somewhere between a candle holder, a stained glass sculpture and a miniature cityscape.

It can bring a warm, atmospheric detail to a shelf, bedside table, console or other small space. It also makes a thoughtful gift for someone who loves stained glass, handmade decor, architecture, cities and unique candle holders.

Like the other pieces in this collection, City Lights is built around simple forms and a limited palette. But here, those simple elements tell a small story:

A grey city outside.
A little color inside.
A warm light in the dark.

The Story Behind This Design

Simple Forms. Simple Colors. This collection began with a simple idea: beauty does not need complexity. We are drawn to objects that feel clear, balanced and intentional - pieces built from simple shapes, a limited range of colors and a few carefully considered details. This approach became the foundation for a growing collection of handmade home decor and functional objects. The collection is inspired by the idea that everyday objects can be both useful and beautiful without being overly complicated. A candle holder, incense holder, photo frame or another small object can become a quiet design element through its shape, proportion, color and material.

How Each Handmade Stained Glass Piece Is Made

Every piece is individually handcrafted using the traditional copper foil technique, originally developed by Louis Comfort Tiffany in the late 19th century. Today, this time-honored method remains one of the most intricate ways to create stained glass art, requiring precision and patience from start to finish.

Each piece goes through a meticulous, multi-step process:

Design - Every artwork begins with an original design, carefully planned to balance color, light, and composition.

Glass Cutting - Each individual shape is hand-cut from sheets of colored stained glass, following the pattern with precision.

Grinding & Fitting - Every glass piece is ground by hand and repeatedly test-fitted to ensure clean lines and a perfect assembly.

Cleaning - Before the next stage, every glass element is thoroughly cleaned to ensure proper adhesion and a flawless finish.

Copper Foiling - Each piece is individually wrapped with thin copper foil by hand, a delicate process that prepares the glass for soldering.

Assembly - All glass pieces are carefully positioned and secured, bringing the design together for the first time.

Hand Soldering - Every joint is soldered by hand, permanently bonding the entire composition into a strong, unified piece.

Cleaning Again - Flux residues are carefully removed, preparing the piece for its final finish.

Patina (when required by the design) - Depending on the design, a patina may be applied to the solder lines to achieve their intended color and aesthetic.

Final Assembly - Hanging hardware, chains, decorative elements, and any finishing components are individually attached by hand.

Polishing & Protection - Finally, the entire piece is polished and finished with a protective coat of natural carnauba wax, enhancing its appearance and helping preserve its finish over time.

Because every stage is completed by hand, slight variations in glass texture, color, transparency, solder lines, and overall appearance are natural and expected. The character of stained glass itself means that each sheet interacts with light differently, making every finished piece truly one of a kind.

This is not a mass-produced or factory-made product. It is a handcrafted stained glass artwork created with patience, skill, and careful attention to every detail - made to be enjoyed for years to come.
